An estimate, not a promise. It assumes a south-facing, unshaded spot, about 700 kWh a year from an 800W kit (Energy Saving Trust), 70% of it used at home, and the Ofgem price cap unit rate of 26.32p per kWh (1 Oct to 31 Dec 2026). Power sent to the grid isn't paid for.

Simple tip

Save more by using it in the day

Your kit saves you money when your home uses its power as it's made. So run the washing machine, the dishwasher or the tumble dryer while the sun's out.

That's how a busy home, with someone in all day, gets the most from a kit.

This is an estimate, not a promise. Your saving depends on where you live, the sun on your spot and when you use power.

How it's worked out

  1. Power made. We start with the Energy Saving Trust's 700 kWh a year for an 800W kit. Smaller kits scale down. Bigger kits make more in the mornings, evenings and on cloudy days, but stop at 800W at midday. So we scale them up by panel power, less a fifth of the extra. That's about 850 kWh for the Plus 1030W and about 980 kWh for the Large kit.
  2. Power used at home. Only power your home uses as it's made saves money. We use 70% for a busy home, 58% if someone's in most of the day, 49% if you're in and out, and 40% if you're usually out.
  3. Over 10 and 20 years. We add up each year's saving at today's unit rate, with the panels losing 0.5% a year. If prices rise, you'd save more.
  4. Carbon. Each kWh you use from your panels, not the grid, saves about 0.131kg of CO₂e.

Saving = power made × share used at home × unit rate, rounded to the nearest £5. You can put in your own figures above.
